Being one of the leading Hollywood icons, Kevin Costner being on the verge of bankruptcy is somehow unbelievable but this has turned into a reality after the flop of ‘Horizon: An American Saga’ even after $38 million in investment. Since the flop project couldn’t recover the money for Costner, his lavish apartment in Santa Barbara estate is now at risk. According to a Blast report, there has been a critical issue around his apartment and a delay in the future installments of the movie.
Why is Kevin Costner at financial risk?
Costner, probably not after getting due investors, invested a major chunk of his own money, amounting nearly $38 million, in Horizon: The American Saga, which is a $100 million project, that flopped at the box office. Costner is also recently divorced, and has to pay up a $60,000-plus amount on a monthly basis for child support. These factors have aligned together and created a major financial issue and has also landed his prized Santa Barbara residence in the bargain.
Horizon’s initial hype did little to save Costner’s money after he ignored advices
According to reports, Costner ignored warnings from his well-wishers around investing his own money in the $100 million project, which has now proven costly. Even the hopes of recovering the amount from subsequent project is also in a gray area after the first part’s poor performance has halted the proceedings towards a sequel. The film had earned a major ovation at the Cannes Film Festival and a steady hype during and after release, but could not make an impact at the box office significantly, and could only rake in a meagre $11 million in its opening weekend, which us unbecoming of a $100 million film, with such amazing cast.
