Kourtney Kardashian isn’t one to let medical predictions stop her from following her instincts. The Kardashians star recently celebrated an impressive 21 months of breastfeeding her and husband Travis Barker’s son, Rocky, in honor of World Breastfeeding Week—a milestone she was once told might never happen.

“I told my baby we would breastfeed when he was in my tummy every day after doctors told me he probably wouldn’t be able to,” Kourtney shared on Instagram Stories on August 8, alongside a photo of her nursing Rocky on a boat. “I prayed about it and never believed it. Blessed and grateful for this beautiful life and experience together with my baby—21 months and going strong.”

The 46-year-old has made it clear that she’s in no rush to stop. In July 2024, she revealed she planned to nurse Rocky for “at least a year,” matching the time she breastfed her 10-year-old son Reign, whom she shares with ex Scott Disick along with Mason, 15, and Penelope, 13.

Beyond breastfeeding, Kourtney is a strong advocate for natural and instinctive parenting. On Khloe Kardashian’s podcast Khloe in Wonderland, she explained how therapy encouraged her to challenge traditional parenting norms. She opts for holistic remedies—choosing to “nurse the fever” of her children rather than giving medication like Tylenol or ibuprofen.

Her parenting style also includes attachment parenting principles. Kourtney revealed she holds Rocky for the entirety of his three-to-five-hour naps to encourage a secure emotional bond. “With attachment-style parenting, I hold him for his naps the whole time,” she said. “I still have my little breastfeeding pillow, and I use a radiation blanket to protect from EMF exposure.”

When asked why she chooses such a hands-on approach, Kourtney simply credits her instincts: “It’s really about not separating for as much as possible in the first three years. My motherly instincts just tell me—mother knows best.”
